Consociate Media Partner Named to NPR’s Emerging Leaders Board

Blog, News

Consociate Media Partner Amanda Shortt has been named to NPR’s Emerging Leaders Board, the capable group of young professionals who seek new and unique opportunities to engage millennials in supporting the mission of public media.

Professionals on the board come from across the spectrum of industries that include communication, education, nonprofit and government. Members are between the ages of 21 and 40 to maintain a focus on engaging young audiences.

Shortt joined Consociate Media, a Gloucester-based marketing and management firm, as Operations Director in August 2020 and was named a Partner earlier this fall. She is a tireless volunteer at Isle of Wight Humane Society and St. Luke’s Methodist Church in addition to being a Girl Scout troop leader. She is a member of the Virginia Handbell Consort and the mother of two children, Penelope and Aiden.

Shortt earned a bachelor’s in business administration and management from Christopher Newport University. She is an admitted NPR “dork,” who listens to public radio throughout her day, favoring the weekly news quiz show “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell me” and “Out of the Box with Paul Shugrue.”

“I’m really excited and honored to join the board,” said Shortt, who will look for opportunities to expand WHRV-sponsored events on the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula. “There’s a strong presence on the Southside where WHRO is headquartered. However, there are so many ways to reach audiences outside of that and increase the footprint on the other side of the water.”

WHRV is the flagship National Public Radio member station for Hampton Roads and a sister station to the area’s PBS member WHRO-TV.
